The recent buzz in the RE photography industry is all about the lighting. In the past the standard was to open all the blinds and turn on all the lights to get a broad spectrum lighting and shadows. Here recently though the hot new trend is the no lights movement, the newer vision of residential RE photography. It eliminates ill fated odd lighting that is often encounter with different color temperature bulbs mixed with natural lighting. The no lights movement is slowly but surely making it's presence and with good reason. It has it's place in the industry. Sometimes brighter is not always better. Sometimes embracing soft and comfortable are better suiting to a residence. Almost always. A home should feel soft and comfortable. The truth is the property itself should really dictate what the lighting scenario should be. If it is a trendy modern yes bright is best. If it is a historical property it may need some lighting attributes as they can often be dark. Beach homes most likely take advantage of natural light simply due to their location to scenery. The point is that is always a good idea to have a conversation with the photographer ahead of time to discuss the property attributes and create of vision of how the home should be presented in media and what form of media that will be. Another topic for another day is Twilight photos. That is another level of photo lighting for another day. Stay tuned for that.
